
Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship Program for 2016 (Research Student) - for Israeli Citizens
The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (MEXT) offers scholarships to international students who wish to study in graduate courses at Japanese universities either as (non-degree) student or regular student for a degree under the Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship Program for 2016.
The Embassy of Japan in Israel would like to encourage anyone interested in studying in Japan apply to this program as follows.
Guideline:
Please read carefully the followings points as well as the Application Guidelines provided by MEXT for the detail.
1. Fields of Study
Applicants should apply for the field of study they majored in at university or its related field.
And fields of study must be subjects which applicants will be able to study and research in graduate courses at Japanese universities. Read the details.
2. Terms of Scholarship
Periods of Scholarship (depend on the courses a grantee takes in Japan):
(1) up to 2 years from April 2016 (till March 2018)
(2) up to 1.5 years from October 2016 (till March 2018)

3. Qualifications & Conditions (Below points are only part of them)
(1) Nationality: Applicants must be a holder of Israeli passport or Israeli ID Card.
(2) Age: Applicants must have been born on or after April 2, 1981.
(3) Academic Backgrounds: Applicants must be a graduate from a Japanese university or have academic ability equal or superior to that of a Japanese university graduate. Read the details

Prepare 3 sets of documents and submit by hand by the prescribed deadline:

For Israeli applicants, the application forms are available upon your request to: study@tl.mofa.go.jp
Please specify the following information in your email and you will receive the application forms by email when you are qualified.
(1) Full Name
(2) Gender (Male / Female)
(3) Nationality (only Israeli passport/ ID holders can apply)
(4) Date of birth (Applicants must have been born on or after April 2, 1981)
(5) Name of the university you graduated and the degree you received (Bachelor, Master, etc.)
2. Prepare Applications
(1) Prepare 3 sets of documents and submit by hand by the deadline. All required documents are to be fully and correctly completed. INCOMPLETE SET OF DOCUMENTS WILL BE DISQUALIFIED. Check the necessary documents.
(2) All documents submitted will not be returned. However, art portfolios will be returned upon request only within a year after submission.
(3) Official documents must be submitted in ENGLISH ONLY. In case your school does not issue the document in English, you must submit an English translation in addition to the original document.
DOCUMENTS IN HEBREW or ARABIC WITHOUT ENGLISH TRANSLATION WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.

3. Deadline for submitting applications
The above mentioned 3 sets of application documents should be submitted by hand to the Public Information & Culture Section
(library), Embassy of Japan in Israel (19th Floor, The Museum Tower, 4 Berkowitz Street, Tel Aviv),
no later than 14:00 on Friday, June 12, 2015.
The Embassy opening hours: 9:00-17:00 (Mon.-Thu.), 9:00-15:00 (Fri.)
4. Primary Screening (Documents Screening, Written Examination & Interview)
(1) The primary screening procedures will be handled by the 2016 Research Student Scholarship Selection Committee,
organized by the Embassy of Japan in Israel.
(2) The submitted documents will be screened by July 3, 2015, and only who passed the documents screening
will be invited to the written examination and the interview which will be held at the Embassy of Japan in Tel Aviv.
(3) The following dates are to be confirmed to those who passed the documents screening.
Written Examination (English test and Japanese test): Tuesday, July 14, 2015
Interview (in English): Wednesday, July 15, 2015

(4) After the interview, the Committee will select the candidates who passed the primary screening.
The Embassy will notify the results to the examinees by around mid of July.
5. Acceptance letter and Secondary Screening
(1) The candidates who passed the primary screening will need to start contact the Japanese university of his/her choice
and obtain an admission or a letter of provisional acceptance from the university (July-August 2015, with a special form given by the Embassy) and submit it to the Embassy.
(2) MEXT will conduct a secondary screening based on the results of the primary screening, and select applicants as
MEXT scholarship grantees. Please note that those who are not accepted by any universities which the applicants named in their
Placement Preference Form, will not be selected as MEXT scholarship grantees.
6. Final result announcement
The final result of MEXT secondary screening will be informed to the successful grantees in December 2015.
