In July I was appointed by the government of Japan as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the state of Israel.
I just arrived in this country at the beginning of this month. This is the first time for me to visit and live in Israel in my 35 years of diplomatic career. I am gratified to see the development of the relationship between Japan and Israel in various areas in recent years. Especially in the economic field, the bilateral investment agreement has come into effect, and the trade and investment between the two countries have dramatically increased. I would like to further this strong momentum. I am also encouraged to hear that there are many people in Israel who feel affinity to Japan through not only the Japanese traditional culture, but also the food, martial arts, pop culture, and even their visits to Japan. I would like to work to deepen understanding about Japan in Israel and strengthen personal exchanges between the two countries. Furthermore, there are over 1,000 Japanese citizens here in Israel. I would like to make the utmost efforts for their safety and support of their activities. We always welcome and are appreciative of your comments and suggestions. Regarding peace in the Middle East region, Japan is determined to continue to promote the "Corridor for Peace and Prosperity" initiative, in order to actively support the resumption of the Middle East peace process as an honest facilitator of the dialogue and to promote confidence-building between Israel and Palestine. I am looking forward to seeing as many of you as possible during my tenure and highly appreciate your support. |
