| Friday Lecture: Embassy of Japan in cooperation with the Israel Japan Friendship Society Bonsai - From Ancient Tradition to Modern Art |

The Museum Tower, 19th floor 4 Berkowitz St., Tel Aviv The lecture will be held in Hebrew Lecturer: Mr. Ofer Grunwald Bonsai - the art of sculpting with living trees - is widely recognized as being quintessentially Japanese. Due to the use of a living, growing, and relentlessly changing material, bonsai is known as 'four dimensional sculpture'. While, normally, the sculptural process is finite, yielding a definite end-result, bonsai are create gradually, through a joint effort by both the artist and the tree, over many years. In this lecture, we will recount the history of bonsai, from the imperial court in China, and through to the current global state of the art. We will explore the unique philosophy, processes and techniques required when working with a medium that is in a state of constant flux, and the concept of an artistic 'work' in an artform where any given composition exists only momentarily. The lecture will be presented by Mr. Ofer Grunwald, one of the leading bonsai artists in Israel, and a key figure influencing current global trends in Western bonsai. |
בונסאי - ממסורת עתיקה לאמנות מודרנית ביום שישי 21 בנובמבר 2014 בשעה 11:00 בספריית שגרירות יפן מגדל המוזיאון רחוב ברקוביץ 4, קומה 19, תל אביב. ההרצאה בעברית מרצה: מר עפר גרינולד אחת האמנויות המזוהה ביותר כ'יפנית' היא הבונסאי - אמנות הפיסול עם עצים חיים. בשל העבודה עם חומר חי, הצומח, מתפתח ומשתנה ללא הרף, זכתה הבונסאי בכינוי - פיסול בארבעה ממדים. בניגוד לאמן הרגיל, הניגש את החומר ויוצר את הפסל באופן מיידי, יצירת הבונסאי נוצרת באופן הדרגתי, בעבודה משותפת של האמן והעץ לאורך שנים. ההרצאה תסקור את תולדותיה של אמנות הבונסאי, מהחצר הקיסרית בסין, ועד למגמות עכשוויות ברחבי העולם. נבחן את הפילוסופיה, הטכניקות והתהליכים הייחודיים הדרושים לעבודה עם מדיום הנמצא בשינוי מתמיד, ואת מונח ה'יצירה' בתחום אמנות שבו כל קומפוזיציה היא רגעית בלבד. את ההרצאה יעביר עפר גרינולד, מאמני הבונסאי המובילים בארץ, ואחד ממובילי התמורות בבונסאי המערבי של ימינו. ההשתתפות אינה כרוכה בתשלום אולם בשל דרישות הביטחון בשגרירות יפן חלה חובת הרשמה מראש. הרשמה בפייסבוק בלבד לא תיקלט. יש להירשם ישירות דרך שגרירות יפן או דרך אגודת הידידות. |
