
Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship Program (Undergraduate Student) for 2015 – for Israeli Citizens
The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology(MEXT) offers scholarships to international students who wish to study at Japanese universities as undergraduate (first degree) students under the Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship Program for 2015.
The Embassy of Japan in Israel would like to encourage anyone interested in studying in Japan apply to this program as follows:

2. Term of Scholarship
In total 5 years from April 2015 to March 2020. The first year (April 2015 – March 2016) will be focused on Japanese preparatory language courses.

a) Nationality: Applicants must be a holder of Israeli passport or Israeli ID Card.
b) Age: Applicants generally must have been born between April 2, 1993 and April 1, 1998.

Notes on article 3.b
The Embassy of Japan will accept the applications from Israel applicants who served in IDF for a certain period as follows.
Applicants generally must have been born between April 2, 1993 and April 1, 1998.
However, the Embassy will accept the application;
(1) from the applicant who was born between April 2, 1992 and April 1, 1998 under the condition that the applicant submits a proof of army service of 24 months or more.
(2) from the applicant who was born between April 2, 1991 and April 1, 1998 under the condition that the applicant submits a proof of army service of 36 months or more.

c) Academic Backgrounds: Applicants must either have completed a 12-year regular course of school education
or have graduated from a school equivalent to an upper secondary school in Japan.

Schedule & Procedures
1. Get your Application forms & other documents
The application forms are available upon your request to: study@tl.mofa.go.jp
Please specify the following information in your email and you will receive the application forms by email when you are qualified.
(1) Full Name
(2) Gender (Male / Female)
(3) Nationality (only Israeli passport/ ID holders can apply)
(4) Date of birth (Applicants generally must have been born between April 2, 1993 and April 1, 1998)
(5) The month and the year you completed [or will complete] your high school education.
(6) Current status (If you are currently on a military duty, when will you complete it?
If you are released from military duty, please describe.)
2. Prepare Applications
(1) Prepare 3 sets of documents and submit by hand by the deadline. All required documents are to be fully and correctly completed. Please be reminded that you have to ask some documents such as Bagrut certificate to your high school administration. INCOMPLETE SET OF DOCUMENTS WILL BE DISQUALIFIED.
Check the necessary documents.
(2) All documents submitted will not be returned.
(3) Official documents must be submitted in ENGLISH ONLY. In case your school does not issue the document in English, you must submit an English translation in addition to the original document. DOCUMENTS IN HEBREW or ARABIC WITHOUT ENGLISH TRANSLATION WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.
3. Deadline for submitting applications
(1) The above mentioned 2 sets of application documents should be submitted by hand to the Public Information & Culture Section (library), Embassy of Japan in Israel (The Museum Tower 19th Floor, 4 Berkowitz Street, Tel Aviv),
no later than 14:00 on Friday, July 25, 2014.
The Embassy opening hours: 9:00-17:00 (Mon.-Thu.), 9:00-15:00 (Fri.)
(2) Bagrut certificate with scores can be submitted in the beginning of August but no later than August 10, 2014.
Please note that without the Bagrut certificate, you will not be eligible to pass the Primary Screening.
4. Primary Screening (Documents Screening, Written Examinations & Interview)
(1) The primary screening procedures will be handled by the 2015 Undergraduate Student Scholarship Selection Committee, organized by the Embassy of Japan in Israel.
(2) The submitted documents will be screened by around August 1, 2014, and only who passed the documents screening will be invited to the written examinations and the interview which will be held at the Embassy of Japan in Tel Aviv.
(3) The following dates are to be confirmed to those who passed the documents screening.
Written Examinations: Monday, August 11, 2014 (tbc)
Interview (in English):
Thursday, August 14, 2014 (tbc)
(4) Subjects of written examinations
(a) For applicants for a major in Social Sciences and Humanities:
All applicants must sit for mathematics, English and Japanese (3 subjects in all).
(b) For applicants for a major in Natural Sciences:
All applicants must sit for mathematics, English and Japanese + two subjects selected from among physics, chemistry and biology.
(5 subjects in all).

(6) After the interview, the Committee will select the candidates who passed the primary screening.
The Embassy will notify the results to the examinees in a few days after the interview.
5. Final Selection
Applicants who have been selected by the primary screening will be recommended to MEXT.
Then MEXT will conduct final selection of the recommended applicants and decide scholarship grantees.
The result of the final selection will be informed to the successful grantees in December 2014.
