
Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship Program (Undergraduate Student) for 2018 – for Israeli Citizen
The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) offers scholarships to international students who wish to study at Japanese universities as undergraduate students under the Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship Program for 2018.
The scholarship period will last for 5 years from April 2018 to March 2023, including the 1 year preparatory education in the Japanese language and other subjects due to be provided upon arrivals in Japan.
For scholarship grantees majoring in medicine, dentisty, veterinary medicine or a 6 year course in pharmacy, the scholarship period will be 7 years until March 2025.
The Embassy of Japan in Israel is now open for the applications by Israeli citizens for this program as follows.
1. Application Guidelines
Please read very carefully the Application Guidelines provided by MEXT .
The Embassy of Japan in Israel accepts applications from the Israeli citizens (a holder of Israeli passport or Israeli ID card).
There is one exception regarding "Qualifications & Conditions" about age for the Israeli applicants who served in IDF for a certain period as follows.
Notes on article 6.(2) in the Application Guidelines:
Applicants, in principle, must have been born between April 2, 1996 and April 1, 2001.
However, the Embassy will accept the application;
(1) from the applicant who was born between April 2, 1995 and April 1, 1996 under the condition that the applicant submits a proof of army service of 24 months or more.
(2) from the applicant who was born between April 2, 1994 and April 1, 1995 under the condition that the applicant submits a proof of army service of 36 months or more.

2. Schedule & Procedure for Israeli Applicants
1. Get your Application forms & other documents
The Embassy of Japan in Israel will send you the application forms upon your email request to: study@tl.mofa.go.jp
Please write the following information in your email.
(1) Full Name in English
(2) Gender (Male / Female)
(3) Nationality *only Israeli passport/ ID holders can apply
(4) Date of birth *Please see the above mentioned Notes on article 6.(2) in the Application Guidelines.
(5) The month and the year you have completed [or will complete] your high school education, and whether if you have Bagrut certificate
(6) Current status (If you are currently on a military duty, the month & the year you will be released. If you are free from military duty with some reason, please describe)
2. Prepare and submit applications by July 28
(1) All required documents are to be fully and correctly completed (2 sets).
INCOMPLETE SET OF DOCUMENTS WILL BE DISQUALIFIED.
Please be reminded that you will need a time to prepare some documents to be provided by your high school administration such as Academic Transcript, high school graduation certificate and Bagrut certificate.
(2) All documents submitted will not be returned.
(3) Official documents must be submitted in ENGLISH ONLY. In case your school does not issue the document in English, you must submit an English translation in addition to the original document. (That means Academic Transcript, high school graduation certificate and Bagrut certificate should be submitted with English translation)
DOCUMENTS IN HEBREW or ARABIC WITHOUT ENGLISH TRANSLATION WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.
(4) The application documents should be submitted by hand to the Press & Culture Section, Embassy of Japan in Israel,
no later than 14:00 on Friday, July 28, 2017
3. Written Examinations & Interview(Primary Screening by the Embassy)
(1) The primary screening procedures will be executed by the 2018 Undergraduate Student Scholarship Selection Committee, organized by the Embassy of Japan in Israel.
(2) The result of documents screening will be informed to all applicants via email by around August 8, 2017.
Only who passed the documents screening will be invited to written examinations.
(3) Written examinations will be held on Monday, August 14, 2017.
Subjects of examinations:
(a) For applicants for a major in Social Sciences and Humanities:
All applicants must sit for Mathematics, English, and Japanese (3 subjects in all).
(b) For applicants for a major in Natural Sciences:
All applicants must sit for Mathematics, English, Japanese, and two subjects selected from among
Physics / Chemistry / Biology (5 subjects in all).

Interview: examinees who will pass examinations will be invited to an interview (in English), which will be held by the Committee members on Friday, August 18, 2017.
(4) After the interview, the Committee will select final candidates who passed the primary screening.
The Embassy will notify the results to all the interviewees a few days after the interview.
4. Secondary Screening by MEXT in Japan
Applicants who have been selected by the primary screening as final candidates will be recommended to MEXT.
Then MEXT will conduct the Secondary Screening of the final candidates and decide scholarship grantees.
5. Final result announcement
The result of the final selection will be informed to the successful grantees by around January 2018.
