| Ambassador Matsutomi's Welcoming Reception

| On September 18th, 2014, a welcoming reception, hosted by Ambassador Shigeo Matsutomi and Mrs. Kaori Matsutomi, was held at the Ambassador's residence. Over 130 guests attended the event, among them Mr. Harel Locker, Director General of the Prime Minister's Office; H.E. Amb. Nissim Ben Shitrit, acting Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Israel (former Ambassador to Japan); the Hon. Mr. Shimon Ohayon, member of the Knesset (and member of the Israel-Japan Parliamentary Friendship Group); Dr. Roni Bornstein, Chairman of the Israel-Japan Friendship Society and Chamber of Commerce; as well as distinguished guests from various arenas, Japanese living in Israel and representatives of the diplomatic corps in Israel. Ambassador Matsutomi started his greeting with a message from his predecessor, Ambassador Sato. Then Ambassador Matsutomi expressed his clear will for strengthening Japan-Israel relations while referring to a visit to Japan by Prime Minister Netanyahu last May, which actually boosted the recent mutual visits of high ranking officials, including visits to Israel by Japanese Ministers in the economic arena, a planned visit by a business mission to Japan and a bilateral strategic dialogue, which is also expected to be held in Tokyo. |

In addition, Ambassador Matsutomi introduced WAW! Tokyo 2014 (World Assembly for Women in Tokyo), which was held lately, and is the Abe administration's policy for women's empowerment, and "Japan Week" in Jerusalem, which is to be held in October. Following the Ambassador, the guest of honor, acting Director General Nissim Ben Shitrit, former Ambassador to Japan, gave a toast with a blessing for the new ambassador's success and for the furthering of our bilateral relationship. |
