Presentation Ceremony of "Akie Book Collection"
to Bloomfield Library for the Humanities
and Social Science, The Hebrew University of Jerusalem

On April 14th, 2015, the Presentation Ceremony of the
"Akie Book Collection*" toward Bloomfield Library for the Humanities and Social Science, The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, was held at the Armon Netzer Memorial Seminar Room at the library.

On the occasion of the Japanese Prime Minister and Mrs. Abe's visit to Israel in January this year, Mrs. Abe had brought with her the books to donate to the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, which plays a significant role in leading Japanese studies in this country. Since the tight schedule of Mrs. Abe's visit to Israel didn't allow her to hold this ceremony, today, Ambassador Shigeo Matsutomi and his wife, Mrs. Kaori Matsutomi, presented the collection to the university's Bloomfield Library in Mrs. Abe's honor. With the collection of more than 70 books, a specially ordered "Dream" calligraphy tile, which was traced from Prime Minister Abe's writing, was donated to the library as well.

It was attended by, from the Hebrew University, Dr. Eran Vardi, Director of the Library Authority; Ms. Naomi Alshech, Director of Bloomfield Library for the Humanities and Social Science; and other teachers and students; and from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Eyal Lampert, at the Japan and Korea desk of the North East Asia Department.
At the ceremony, followed by a greeting and an introduction about Japanese studies at the university by Dr. Otmazgin,
a BA student majoring Japan, expressed his appreciation for the donation of the collection in Japanese.
Japanese teachers also welcomed the book donation by stressing the importance of reading the "original Japanese document," in learning Japanese.

Lastly, Ms. Alshech reiterated the appreciation for the donation and showed that the donated books of the collection have been already on the Library's on-line catalogue.
After the ceremony, Ambassador and Mrs. Matsutomi were guided through the Library by Mr. Vardi, Director of the Library Authority, and Ms. Alshech, Director of the Library.
