Ambassador Sato hosted a Reception
in Commemoration of the Great East Japan Earthquake (March 11)

On March 11, Ambassador and Mrs. Sato hosted a reception in commemoration of the Great East Japan Earthquake,
exactly a year after the tragic disaster struck the country.
Among over 250 guests were the Hon. M.K. Mr. Shai Hermesh, the Chairman of the Israel-Japan Parliamentary Friendship League; the Hon. M.K. Mr. Yariv Levin; H.E. Amb. Ruth Kahanoff, Deputy Director General for Asia & the Pacific, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Israel; Brig. Gen. Shalom Ben-Arie (Ret.), Commander of the IDF Search and Rescue Unit and many distinguished guests
both from the Israeli and Japanese communities.

In his remarks, Ambassador Sato expressed Japan's renewed and heartfelt gratitude for all the warm support given by the Government and the people of Israel in the wake of the disaster.
He also encouraged the guests to visit the new, revitalized Japan, by reiterating that the disaster-affected areas,
including their infrastructure and economies, are firmly on their way to recovery and have in most part returned to normal.

Ambassador Sato lastly expressed his hope that this year's 60th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Diplomatic Relations between Japan and Israel will further advance the kizuna (bond of friendship), which was reaffirmed through the relief support
Israel provided last year.
The two guests of honor, H.E. Amb. Kahanoff and Brig. Gen. Ben-Arie both prayed anew for the victims,
and expressed their commitments for continued support and solidarity to the people of Japan
