The Government of Japan has decided to confer the decoration “The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon”

to Prof. Jacob Raz, Department of East Asian Studies at Tel-Aviv University, on 29^th April, 2006.

Prof. Raz is one of the leading Israeli scholars of the Japanese studies and the decoration is conferred for his contribution

to the promotion of Japanese studies over a long period of time,

as well as for his outstanding contribution to the friendship and mutual understanding between Japan and Israel.

    Prof. Raz’s major academic works on Japan include the study of Yakuza -Organized Crime Groups in Japan

    (anthropological approach), Itinerant societies in Japanese culture and others.
